a closer look

Well you all seemed to really enjoy the mini tour! So here is a closer look at some of Miss Kelly's collections...

It wouldn't be a Kelly collection without marbles!

These metal picnic baskets are some of her favorites...

There is always a bit of humor incorporated into the displays...like these time worn bowling pins next to these beautiful tins!

I just love every single found object in her collection. You can tell each one was hand selected and lovingly added to her home.
I'm inspired!!! I hope you are too...

the epitome of a warm autumnal palette

So it really is fall!
I can't think of a better home to share this season than my brother and sister in law's home. They have the most amazing collections. They have loads of cool stuff and I was lucky enough to style a few of their special finds for a magazine photo shoot.

How much do you love this olive bucket turned light fixture...

There are treasures in every corner of their home!

Fresh flowers are a must for all seasons.

The transition areas between rooms are beautifully decorated. It is like having a sneak peek of what is to come...

The fireplace mantle is dressed with an assortment of whimsical treasures. Everything is tied together by the charming color that repeats throughout the entire house.

Even the landing area at the top of the steps is set like a perfect stage ready for viewing.

I absolutely love the mixing and matching of metal and wood, toys and functional pieces and the blending of colors. It all looks effortless...but I know a lot of thought went into every single vignette.

A common thread is the love of labels. The unique graphics, colors and designs are individual works of art that have survived the test of time...

I also love to see the special works of art tied into the décor, like this hand painted pear on an old window...

I love styling, writing and taking photos for various magazines and books. The only thing that makes it better is working with people I love! Thank you Bob and Kelly for letting me share your beautiful home with the readers of Flea Market Décor magazine!!!

looking for color

As fall approaches it can be a little hard for me to get into the spirit of the season. Maybe it's because I look outside and it still feels like the heart of summer! Living so far south can make it difficult. I'm used to seeing the leaves turning colors throughout the rolling hills of West Virginia. Instead, I look outside at the palm trees swaying in the heat of a sunny beach day. I'm not complaining but it is a bit of a challenge to get fully into the spirit of the season.
My solution is to dig deep into my decorating hoard
insearch of color.

As soon as an autumnal palette starts to appear from my boxes and cupboards, I can feel like fall is near...

I always try to tackle one room at a time when I start to decorate for a new season or holiday.
This way decorating the entire house doesn't seem quite as intimidating.
My kitchen undergoes the transformation first...

I like to use my vintage kitchen utensils as decorations. The red, green and orange colors are perfect...

My kitchen collection includes everything from canning equiptment to cookie cutters...

to garden and bird books...

and gorgeous binoculars...

and an assortment of lovely linens too!

Now it's starting to feel like fall.

One room down!
Happy fall ya'll.
